Strategy - frequently asked questions

2 questions answered by the Hopton Analytics team.

A data leader should protect time for strategic work by reserving it in the diary and framing it as today's work rather than tomorrow's, because anything labelled strategic gets traded away first under pressure. Tying it to a current problem the business already feels gives it the same standing as the requests competing with it.

There is more detail in Fixed price, not time and materials: how we scope and price analytics work.

Short-term work crowds out long-term data work because today always feels more urgent than tomorrow, and the requests that arrive have names attached. Unless time for the longer-term work is reserved deliberately and protected, the treadmill of today's requests will consume all of it, and the platform work that would reduce those requests never starts.
