What this policy covers
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies, such as browser local storage and tracking scripts, and this policy covers those too; for simplicity we call them all “cookies”. This page explains which cookies hoptonanalytics.com uses, what each one does, and how you control them. How we use the personal data involved is explained in our Privacy Policy.
How consent works on this site
When you first visit, our consent banner asks for your choices. Non-essential cookies are not set until you accept them, and you can accept or reject each category separately. Our company identification tool (Snitcher) runs in consent mode, meaning it sets no cookies or persistent storage until you agree. You can change your choices at any time using the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer. Your choice is remembered by a consent cookie so we do not ask you on every visit. Essential cookies do not require consent because the site cannot function without them.
The cookies we use
Essential
Essential cookies are required for the site to function. They do not require your consent.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consent preference cookie | Essential | Records the cookie choices you made in the banner | 12 months, then we ask again |
No login or account cookies are set for ordinary visitors. The /studio admin area sets authentication cookies for Hopton staff only.
Analytics (consent required)
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage, and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with pages (clicks, scrolling and session replays). Clarity is configured to mask what you type into form fields.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors for aggregate usage statistics | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics | Maintains session state for our Analytics property | 2 years |
| _clck | Microsoft Clarity | Persists the Clarity user identifier and settings | 1 year |
| _clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Connects a visitor's page views into a single session recording | 1 day |
| CLID | Microsoft Clarity (clarity.ms) | Identifies the first time Clarity saw this browser | 1 year |
| ANONCHK | Microsoft Clarity (c.clarity.ms) | Indicates whether the MUID identifier is transferred for advertising checks; Clarity sets this to 0 | 10 minutes |
| MR | Microsoft (c.clarity.ms / c.bing.com) | Indicates whether to refresh the MUID identifier | 7 days |
| MUID | Microsoft | Microsoft identifier used across Microsoft domains | 13 months |
| SM | Microsoft (c.clarity.ms) | Used in synchronising Microsoft identifiers across Microsoft domains | Session |
Company identification (consent required)
We use Snitcher and Lead Forensics to identify the organisations, not the individuals, visiting our website. Visit data is matched against company databases and aggregated at company level; neither tool shares individual visitors’ IP addresses with us. Snitcher hosts its data in the EU.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| snitcher_device_id | Snitcher (first-party) | Distinguishes browsers so visits can be grouped and matched to a company | 1 year |
| __sn_tld_probe | Snitcher (first-party) | Momentary technical cookie used to determine the correct domain; set and immediately deleted, stores no data | Instant |
| _lfa | Lead Forensics | Identifies the organisation visiting the site by matching the visit to Lead Forensics' company database | 2 years |
Embedded content (consent required)
Some pages embed content from other companies, which can set their own cookies inside the embed when it loads:
| Cookie / source | Provider | Where it appears | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| vuid | Vimeo | Homepage background video | Vimeo player analytics identifier | 2 years |
| player | Vimeo | Homepage background video | Remembers Vimeo player preferences | 1 year |
| Microsoft service cookies | Microsoft Power BI | Live demo report on /see-it-live | Operate the embedded report session | Per Microsoft's privacy statement |
| Microsoft service cookies | Microsoft Bookings | Booking calendar on /free-audit and /contact | Operate the embedded booking session | Per Microsoft's privacy statement |
| MailerLite form storage | MailerLite | Newsletter and capture forms | Remembers whether a form has been shown to you (browser local storage) | Until cleared |
| ssupp.vid and other ssupp.* cookies | Smartsupp | Live chat bubble, sitewide | Operates the chat session and recognises a returning visitor | Up to 6 months |
Managing and deleting cookies
The quickest control is the “Cookie preferences” link in our footer, where you can change or withdraw your consent at any time; withdrawing stops the relevant cookies being set from then on. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings (look under Privacy in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox), and Google offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics everywhere (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). Deleting our consent cookie means the banner will ask for your choices again. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working. Our consent banner is the control we honour; the site does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals.
