AccoTool - Power BI planning and writeback that completes your Microsoft stack

Budget, forecast and plan inside Power BI, on the Fabric and Azure foundation you already own. Every figure written back to one governed source. No more shadow spreadsheets.

The gap AccoTool closes

Power BI shows your business the truth. On its own, it cannot let anyone act on it.

Your team sees the number, agrees it needs a plan against it, and does the planning somewhere else. Usually Excel. That spreadsheet becomes the real source of the budget, and the governed estate you invested in has been bypassed.

This is the Power BI writeback gap. It is why so many finance teams trust their reporting and still budget in Excel.

AccoTool closes it. Planning, budgeting, forecasting, master data and the commentary behind every figure happen inside the Power BI report, without leaving it, and every entry is written straight back to the governed database.

Our partnership

Hopton and AccoTool

Hopton is AccoTool's Strategic Go-to-Market Partner for the UK and Ireland. We are the team that implements it, tailors it to how your business actually plans, and connects it to the Fabric and Azure foundation underneath.

We are Microsoft data and analytics specialists, not generalists. We build the whole estate: strategy and governance, the Azure and Fabric platform, the Power BI reporting, and now the planning and writeback layer that closes the loop. One partner is accountable for the whole chain, from raw data to the budget your board signs off.

About AccoTool

What AccoTool is

accoTOOL is a Power BI planning and writeback application built natively on the Microsoft stack. It adds write-back to Power BI, so budgets, forecasts, headcount plans and master data all live inside the same report where you track actuals, written back to one governed database.

AccoTool licences are bought through Microsoft AppSource, on a per-user basis. There is no separate platform to stand up, no separate copy of your data, and no new system for your team to learn.

It is AI-native. Planning solutions that used to take a consultant weeks to hand-build can be drafted from a plain-language prompt using AccoTool's Skills with Claude or Microsoft Copilot.

Who it's for

Built for finance teams on Microsoft

Finance teams budgeting in Excel alongside Power BI

If your actuals are in Power BI but your budgets are still in Excel, AccoTool closes the gap. Planning moves into the governed estate, not a parallel spreadsheet.

CFOs and FDs managing a Microsoft reporting estate

If you have already invested in Fabric and Power BI, AccoTool is how budgeting and forecasting leave Excel without any of that investment going to waste.

Finance teams replacing dedicated FP&A software

AccoTool gives you enterprise-grade planning inside the Power BI estate you already run, at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated EPM or FP&A platform.

Controllers and planning teams wanting an audit trail

Every budget entry is logged with who entered it, when, and why. Full version history. Approval routing built in. One governed source, not six versions of a spreadsheet.

See it in context on the planning and writeback page:

See where AccoTool fits the estate on our Power BI planning and writeback page, or join our FP&A in Power BI briefing on 10 November 2026.

What's possible

What your team can do inside Power BI

Once writeback is live, Power BI stops being a place people look at and becomes a place people work.

↳ Planning inside the report

Budget and forecast in the report

Top-down targets and bottom-up input in the same model. Roll forecasts forward monthly without rebuilding anything. Every figure logged with who entered it and when. This is budgeting and forecasting in Power BI, not a separate application.

↳ Headcount and spend

Plan your people and your spend

Headcount and salary planning that recalculates as drivers change. CapEx and OpEx planning with approval routing built in.

↳ Master data

Own your master data in one place

Dimensions, hierarchies and lists maintained inside the report, with validation, so the same structure governs every plan. No separate master-data chore.

↳ Commentary and context

Capture the why, not just the number

Threaded comments attached to the exact cell, saved with the data. When someone asks why the forecast moved, the answer sits next to the figure, not lost in an email.

AccoTool licences are bought through Microsoft AppSource, on a per-user basis. Hopton provides the implementation, tailoring, and the estate it connects to, along with the ongoing support to keep it trustworthy.

Where it fits

On Fabric and Azure, not beside them

1

Your foundation: Azure and Microsoft Fabric

Clean, governed data. One source of truth. The platform that your Power BI reporting already relies on.

2

Your reporting: Power BI

The numbers your leadership team can trust. AccoTool extends the same reports your team already uses - it does not build a new tool alongside them.

3

AccoTool: the planning and writeback layer

Every budget entry, forecast and plan writes back to the Fabric foundation, not into a spreadsheet. The plan lives where the truth lives. One governed estate, not two systems.

4

Hopton: the team that builds and supports it

We scope the implementation, build the estate it connects to, configure AccoTool to match how your business actually plans, and support the whole chain - from raw data to the board sign-off.

Common questions

Questions we get asked

What is Power BI writeback?

Writeback, also written write-back, lets people enter and change data inside a Power BI report and save it straight back to the underlying database, instead of Power BI being read-only. AccoTool adds writeback to Power BI, so budgeting, forecasting and planning happen in the report and update one governed source.

Can you really do budgeting and forecasting inside Power BI?

Yes. With AccoTool, budgets, rolling forecasts, headcount and CapEx or OpEx planning all run inside the Power BI report, with approval routing and a full audit trail of who entered each figure and when. There is no separate budgeting application to log into.

Can we replace Excel budgeting and forecasting with Power BI?

Yes, and that is usually the point. AccoTool keeps planning on the same governed data as your reporting, so budgeting and forecasting move out of Excel and into Power BI, with one source and a complete audit trail, without the cost of a heavyweight enterprise planning platform.

How is this different from FP&A or EPM software?

Dedicated FP&A and EPM platforms mean a separate system, a separate copy of your data, and enterprise pricing. AccoTool gives you enterprise-grade planning inside the Power BI and Fabric estate you already run, at a fraction of the cost, so you do not add another silo to govern.

Do we need to replace Power BI or Fabric?

No. AccoTool sits on top of the Power BI, Fabric and Azure estate you already have and extends it with a planning and write-back layer, so planning inherits the same governance as your reporting.

How are AccoTool licences bought?

Through Microsoft AppSource, on a per-user basis. Hopton provides the implementation, tailoring and the estate it connects to, along with the ongoing support to keep it trustworthy.

Is Hopton AccoTool's official partner in the UK and Ireland?

Yes. Hopton is AccoTool's Strategic Go-to-Market Partner for the UK and Ireland, and the team that implements and supports it across both markets.

How quickly can we get started?

Because AccoTool is AI-native, a working writeback solution can be drafted in a single session rather than built by hand over weeks. We start with a free audit to find where planning is leaking out of your estate, then scope the fastest route to closing it.
